Courtney Discusses Increased Submarine Construction & Growing Eastern CT’s Manufacturing Workforce

March 26, 2026

WASHINGTON, DC – In case you missed it this week on News 8, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, discussed Electric Boat’s newly announced goal to hire 8,000 new workers in 2026 and again in 2027.

“It’s all good for the region,” Courtney said on News 8. “It’s predominantly in the metal trades in terms of people in welding, electricians, outside machinists.”

Today, Courtney joined Brian and Company (WTIC 1080) in response to skepticism around ramping up U.S. submarine construction and workforce development.

“I’m very bullish,” Courtney said on Brian and Company. “This has been, in my opinion, one of the most underreported stories in terms of the shift that’s happening in terms of workforce development.”
