Courtney, DeLauro, Larson, & Esty Issue a PSA on $12.7 Million Unclaimed 2014 Federal Tax Refunds Owed to Connecticut Residents
(WASHINGTON, DC) – Today, Rep. Joe Courtney (CT-02), Rep. Rosa DeLauro (CT-03), Rep. John Larson (CT-01), and Rep. Elizabeth Esty (CT-05) issued a public service announcement for Connecticut taxpayers who may have unclaimed returns from the 2014 tax filing season.
"We are trying to get out the word that the IRS is holding thousands of checks for Connecticut residents that will disappear if they go unclaimed on Tax Day," the members said. "The IRS believes it is holding about $12.7 million in 2014 refunds for taxpayers in Connecticut who did not file their returns that year. We want these residents to know that it is not too late to file for 2014 and collect that money, but the final deadline is approaching."
Refunds worth $12,740,100 are waiting to be claimed by Connecticut taxpayers who have not filed their 2014 federal income tax returns. Taxpayers must file their 2014 tax return with the IRS no later than this year's tax deadline, Tuesday, April 17, to claim a refund. An estimated 11,000 Connecticut taxpayers are owed 2014 returns, and it is strongly recommended that all residents check their tax records to ensure they have claimed their refund.
