COURTNEY COSPONSORS RESOLUTION TO RESTORE NET NEUTRALITY

February 27, 2018

WASHINGTON, DC—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) cosponsored a resolution brought under the Congressional Review Act (CRA) to retract the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) order repealing net neutrality regulations. In December, the Republican-led FCC repealed a 2015 rule created under the Obama administration that established net neutrality to prevent telecommunications companies from slowing down or blocking access to individual websites. The resolution was cosponsored by nearly 150 members of the House of Representatives.

"The decision to repeal net neutrality was a deeply misguided undertaking with no conceivable justification other than fulfilling a political promise that this administration made to special interests. Today we are launching an effort in Congress that will attempt to repair that damage by once again making net neutrality the law of the land," said Courtney. "I look forward to working with my colleagues to reinstate the Obama-era policy of net neutrality that was working for the American people and small businesses who are the real drivers of the internet economy."

The Congressional Review Act (CRA) was signed into law by President Bill Clinton in 1996 in order to create an expedited process for Congress to review regulatory actions by government agencies and overrule regulations by passing a joint resolution of disapproval.
