Courtney Congratulates Rear Admiral Stosz, Rear Admiral Rendon after Change of Command Ceremony
WASHINGTON—Today Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) released the following statement after participating in the Change of Command Ceremony at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London:
“Admiral Sandra Stosz has dedicated her life to serving our nation and protecting our shores, throughout her distinguished career spanning four decades in the U.S. Coast Guard. In her leadership role at the Academy—an historic tenure as the first woman to head a federal service academy—Admiral Stosz led by example thousands of cadets who have joined the officer ranks of the Coast Guard over the past four years. She has worked tirelessly to help each cadet fulfill his or her potential and raised the profile of the academy nationally, while maintaining a strong relationship with the New London community.
“During Admiral Stosz’s tenure, the Academy faced many challenges: Hurricane Sandy, sequestration, and a government shutdown. In every instance, she guided the Academy forward with poise and balance. She was also an innovator, striking an historic agreement with NOAA to train officers together at Officer Candidate School, building a lasting link between those sea services.
“Admiral Stosz’s strong leadership will be missed in New London, but her commitment and expertise will serve our nation well in her new role as Deputy Commandant for Mission Support. I also congratulate and look forward to working with Rear Adm. James Rendon, who will succeed Rear Adm. Stosz at the Academy, where he previously served as Assistant Superintendent.”
