Courtney Calls on Speaker Boehner to Allow Vote on Senate Measure to Avert Government Shutdown
WASHINGTON—Today, after the U.S. Senate passed a continuing resolution supported by President Obama that would fund the federal government at current levels and avert a House Republican-led government shutdown, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-2) released the following statement:
“With a potential shutdown just a few short days away, the Senate has passed a reasonable measure to protect our fragile economic recovery and keep the government operating. It would be a travesty for the House to fail to bring this bill to the floor for a straight up or down vote, and allow the extreme wing of the House Republican conference to hold our economy hostage to score political points. The clock is ticking. Speaker Boehner must allow the Senate measure to move forward, so that we can avert a shutdown and focus on the real work of crafting a responsible budget that ends job-killing sequestration and strengthens our economy.”
