May 24, 2016

WASHINGTON, D.C. —Today, Representative Joe Courtney (CT-02) and U.S. Senators Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) and Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), made the following statement after Secretary of Defense Ash Carter toured Naval Submarine Base New London and the Electric Boat shipyard in Groton:

“Secretary Ash Carter’s visit to Electric Boat and Naval Submarine Base New London today underscores the high priority the Department of Defense places on boosting our undersea capabilities,” said the delegation members. “Secretary Carter recognizes the great strategic value and role of our submarine force in meeting our current and future national security priorities. He also shares our belief that maintaining a strong and active industrial base is vital to ensuring our country’s continued competitive edge. Any time guests to the Electric Boat shipyard get a firsthand look at the highly complex work being done there each day, it’s hard not to walk away extremely impressed with the skill of the workforce and the cutting-edge technology in use there.”
