Courtney announces grants for Sterling and Mansfield Fire Departments
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today announced that the Sterling Fire Department and Town of Mansfield Division of Fire and Emergency Services have secured $52,212 and $45,957, respectively, in federal funding from the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA. The grants will be used to enhance operations and safety at each department.
“These grants are absolutely essential in ensuring that our first responders are well-prepared to keep the community safe,” said Courtney. “The Sterling and Mansfield departments’ ability to secure these competitive grants is a testament the work these men and women put in each day”
The grants are from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. Funding from this program can be used for acquiring equipment, modifying stations, or training firefighters.
Rep. Courtney has consistently supported additional funding for AFG, and in February led the fight in the House of Representatives to protect the program from Republican-sponsored budget cuts.
Since 2001, the AFG has provided approximately $4.6 billion in grants to first-responder organizations to obtain much-needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.
