Courtney announces $964,250 Economic Development grant to Town of Preston for Riverwalk development at former Norwich Hospital site

September 27, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today
announced that the Town of Preston secured a $964,250 grant from the U.S.
Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration (EDA) for
demolition of the buildings and site preparation of the former Norwich Hospital
site. The funds will also be used for redevelopment of the proposed
multi-use Preston Riverwalk Development project. The project will
diversify and energize the region's economic base with new business
construction expected to supplement the area's bioscience and defense industry
clusters.

"The Town deserves tremendous credit for demonstrating to
EDA that they have a credible plan," said Congressman Courtney. "I am
pleased that our joint efforts succeeded in this highly-competitive
environment, and that Preston can move ahead. The demolition of the buildings
and redevelopment of the former hospital complex will allow a once-blighted
site to spur economic growth and opportunity for our region."

On March 27 of this year, Congressman Courtney sent a letter
to the EDA, lending his strong support to the Preston application.
