Courtney announces $48,960 grant for New London Fire Department
WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney today announced that the New London Fire Departments has secured $48,960 in federal funding from the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA to enhance its operations and safety efforts.
“As first responders, the brave men and women who risk their lives each day to protect ours need all the resources they can get,” Courtney said. “This funding will ensure that New London’s firefighters have what they need to keep their community safe and meet always-increasing demands. The fact that the New London Fire Department earned this funding in an incredibly competitive environment is a testament to their hard work.
The grant for New London is from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. Funding from this program can be used for training, equipment, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and health and safety modifications to stations and facilities.
Rep. Courtney has consistently supported additional funding for AFG Program since his arrival in Congress. Since 2001, the AFG has provided approximately $4.6 billion in grants to first-responder organizations to obtain much-needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.
