Courtney Announces $138,000 Grant to Upgrade New London Fire Department Equipment
WASHINGTON—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney announced that the New London Fire Department will receive a $138,000 grant Operation & Safety Grant to upgrade hoses and nozzles. The grant was made available through the federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program under the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
“This funding will help New London’s first responders keep citizens safe. It is critical that our brave firefighters have the quality equipment they need to be safe and effective on the job,” Congressman Courtney said.
“We are very pleased to be receiving this grant. It will enable New London’s firefighters to work well in our mutual aid agreements with neighboring towns. We have been seeking to upgrade our hoses for years, and are pleased that this grant will enable us to do so,” said Henry E. Kydd, Jr., New London Fire Department Chief.
Congressman Courtney has consistently supported additional funding for AFG Program since his arrival in Congress. In December 2013, Courtney sent a letter to FEMA supporting New London’s application for the grant announced today. Since 2001, the AFG has assisted first-responder organizations to obtain much-needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles, and training.
