Courtney to announce new dredging work at Westbrook Harbor

April 10, 2012

WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Joe Courtney on WEDNESDAY, April 11, at 11:30 a.m. will join with local officials and representatives from the Army Corps of Engineers to announce new dredging work at Westbrook Harbor. At the press conference, the Army Corps of Engineers will announce that Patchogue River Dredging in Westbrook will receive $500,000 in reprogrammed funds, which, along with matched funds from the State of Connecticut, will complete the dredging project after years of work.

In 2010, Courtney successfully advocated for Army Corps of Engineers dredger Currituck to conduct long overdue dredging for the channel. While a temporary solution and funding were sought for a full dredge, that work had both immediate and long-term positive economic impacts on the local communities. In addition to speaking about the new work, Courtney will provide an update on the progress of dredging and will see firsthand the work being done in the harbor.
