The Day: EB to Hire 8,000 New Workers in 2026
WASHINGTON, D.C. – In case you missed it in the Day newspaper, submarine builder Electric Boat is “gearing up to hire 8,000 new employees this year.” This marks a significant increase in annual hiring to meet unprecedented demand from Congress and the Navy for Virginia and Columbia-class submarine construction.
From 2018 to 2025, Congress invested over $10 billion into the U.S. submarine industrial base, followed by a significant increase in the 2026 budget. In the FY2026 defense funding process, Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02), Ranking Member of the House Seapower and Projection Forces Subcommittee, secured a funding plus-up for Virginia-class submarines after a shortfall in the Trump Administration’s budget request to Congress.
