Congressman Courtney Responds to President Trump’s Proposal to Adjudicate Deportations in Exchange for Border Wall Funding
Vernon, CT –Congressman Joe Courtney (CT-02) issued the following statement after President Donald Trump’s speech today:
“I listened closely to President Trump’s speech, expecting to hear his commitment to reopen the government immediately – which he can do by green lighting the Senate to pass pending bipartisan spending bills he can sign tonight. Instead he told the country that the shutdown will continue. Passage of a collection of border policies he cobbled together in isolation, and were not negotiated, should not be a precondition of reopening the government.”
Congressman Courtney has voted nine times to immediately fund the U.S. Coast Guard and other federal agencies, and to end the ongoing partial government shutdown.
