Washington—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney announced a $25,000 federal grant to CLiCK (Commercially Licensed Co-Operative Kitchen), Inc. of Willimantic. Awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Rural Business Enterprise Grant will help fund the purchase of commercial kitchen equipment for use by regional farmers and others seeking to incubate small local culinary businesses. CLiCK, Inc. will be equipped to enable local food growers process their produce, connecting them with markets and directly to customers.
WASHINGTON— Congressman Joe Courtney applauded the passage of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) last night, a bipartisan bill which reauthorizes the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) for the first time since 1998. WIA sets policy for state workforce investment boards, and workforce training and retraining programs. Courtney, Ranking Member of the Workforce Protections Subcommittee, has long called for reauthorizing WIA to modernize workforce training and prepare workers for high-skilled jobs.
Norwich, CT—Today, Congressman Joe Courtney announced that a $70,000 federal economic development grant has been awarded to the Southeastern Connecticut Enterprise Region, Inc. (seCTer). After meeting with U.S. Economic Development (EDA) Regional Administrator Willie Taylor and Congressman Courtney, seCTer applied for the funding based on their 2013 designation by EDA as an Economic Development District qualifying the organization for the $70,000 partner planning grant.
